V.I.P. - Volunteer Improvement ProgramGiving Back Never Felt So GoodAs a volunteer, you can make a real difference in a young person's life, as well as your own!
The Boys & Girls Club of Westminster (BGCW) offers an exciting opportunity to join our volunteer team! YOU can make a difference in the lives of the youth in our community!
We offer a variety of opportunities such as working in our Administration Office with fundraising, special events, and data entry and working with our members by assisting in our Clubs with tutoring, front desk, and enrichment activities like karate, yoga and cooking, being a coach with our sports programs for children in 2nd grade through 12th grade. Whether you are a corporation wanting to involve your employees, a student looking for service hours, a senior who wants to share a project idea, a parent who wants to assist with programs, or you simply desire something meaningful to do with your time, we welcome YOU!
Who can volunteer? We encourage anyone who is a high school sophmore or older to be a BGCW volunteer. Any applicants under the age of 18 need to have parental consent. School community hours can be earned, based on the agreements between the school and BGCW. Upon completion, we will be happy to issue a letter showing hour verification. All volunteers will have reference checks conducted, in addition adults (18 years or older) working at the Club will be subject to a Live Scan (criminal background check). Cost to volunteer: $20. How are volunteers recognized? Volunteer time is tax-deductible and the Boys & Girls Club of Westminster can provide verification or reference letters for any volunteer. All volunteers are also eligible to receive the Presidential Volunteer Service Award (for more information, click here), which is presented at our annual volunteer recognition dinner. What are the next steps to volunteer? 1. Download, print, and fill out the application 2. Fax, mail, email or deliver completed application. 3. Once your Volunteer Application is received, processing generally takes one week to complete. Our Volunteer Coordinator will contact all applicants so a phone interview can be scheduled. Reference calls will take place with a background check conducted if volunteering to work with kids at our Club or school locations. We look forward to hearing from you soon! - Become a mentor. Develop a relationship with a child based on one-on-one time; provide academic and moral support; and be available to discuss matters on which children benefit from having an adult's viewpoint and guidance.
- Help at a Club. We always need assistance in the administration office throughout the year! Many ways to help are available such as: organizer, filing, data entry specialist, graphic designer, writer, finance department assistance, resource development assistance and many more.
- Apply your computer skills. Help kids learn how to navigate the Web, do research for their homework, and be able to master software programs to build their skill set.
- Serve as a Leadership Advisor. Assist with our leadership development programs through discussion sessions, role modeling and other activities.
- Become a coach or referee. Many of our Clubs have teams for various sports or fitness activities, g:ames, tournaments and leagues – like basketball, volleyball, flag football, and dance. We need volunteers to help coach and train the kids and to referee the games, tournaments and leagues.
- Tutor children. Throughout the school year and into the summer, we need educated, dedicated adults who can help children with their reading, writing, math and computer skills.
- Assist at an event. BGCW has open houses, donor recognition dinners, awards ceremonies and outdoor events throughout the year. We often need people to help set up, clean up, and serve as greeters. We are currently looking for volunteers who would like to play an integral part prior to/ or the day of the event. We welcome your participation with making a difference with our kids by serving on our Golf Tournament and Open House Committees: Sponsorship, Live & Silent Auction, Marketing/Advertising, Programs, and Registration/Accounting.
